Treasures of The Trevi Fountain

From time to time the municipality of Rome cleans the famous Trevi Fountain and gathers coins thrown by tourists “for luck.” This procedure is performed under the supervision of Carabinieri who count all coins.

According to the special order, each coin becomes community property once it has touched the bottom of the fountain. Tourist donations bring Rome hundreds of thousands of euros annually. These funds used to go to the charity. But during the time of crisis, Rome has decided to spend them on the needs of the city.
