Swimming With White Whales

In the White Sea nature reserve for white whales one can swim with these wonderful creatures or even touch them.

A diver is swimming with two white whales under icebergs in the White Sea, Russia. The whales seem to help him holding his hands.

Some whales had been in captivity for some time but soon, after treatment, they were released.

The White Sea is a real reserve for these mammals. From many zoo- and water parks white whales are brought here to be released. They breed well, here are lots of calves.

Diving with white whales is rather popular because they are friendly. When you are about to dive they look out of the water to hurry you as if they are tired to wait.

Founders of the polar circle diving center are making holes in the ice with help of hand drills and augers.

They remove huge blocks of ice and submerge on the rope to swim 5 meters deep.

Under the ice.

Divers often play with white whales who seem to show off.

White whales are not endangered yet but still they are threatened by pollution and habitat reduction.

This reserve was made by marine biologists from the St. Petersburg University in 2006.

This “nature farm” serves as a breeding center and a center of rehabilitation for white whales.
